With the stay-at-home order in the UK continuing, it’s an idea to make the time self-isolating count by sprucing up our isolation stations, give our homes a refresh.
There’s plenty that can be done, even if we can’t get out to get what we need for a total re-vamp, whether it’s our living rooms, bedrooms, or even following Queer Eye’s design doctor, Bobby Berk on how to style our Animal Crossing homes. We have some tips on how to decorate while social distancing.
1. Assess what is working for you, and what’s now. Perhaps it’s the colour of your walls or the layout of your furniture. When you know what it is you want to change, then you need to figure out how feasible it is to achieve right now.
For example, it might not be possible to change your living room sofa if it’s looking old and tired, but a few new throw pillows can give it a quick update, and leave the major changes for a later time.
2. Painting walls is a simple fix for a dull room. DIY stores are opening again, as long as you maintain the social distancing guidelines, and there are many options for purchasing paint online.
Natural light is a mood lifter, and it’s easy to bring some life back into a room by taking down any faded and drab old draperies.
3. Decluttering is a great idea and can improve the functionality of a home. Whether it’s a small project like the kitchen cupboards or a pantry, or a larger project like the basement or garage, using the Marie Kondo method to remove anything that doesn’t bring you joy can be transformative.
4. A fun activity is to restyle your shelves and bookcases. Gather all the accessories that you own into one place, group them into categories (books, trays, decorative objects, etc.) and then re-style each surface.
