The beauty of interior design and build is that much like other forms of art the inspiration for a room design can come from many different places.
One of these places, for many people, is in the world of interior design television, and in that respect, there are many different options to choose from, from the classic likes of Changing Rooms and Trading Up to more modern and specific twists on the same concept.
If you are looking for interior design inspiration, here are some of the best shows to watch.
Grand Designs
One of the oldest, longest-running and most ambitious shows about design, the aptly named Grand Designs places a focus not only on exceptional architectural builds but also on building beautiful interiors as well.
What makes the show special was the sheer ambition of some of the briefs, such as the many examples of sustainable architecture, converted industrial buildings and other unusual, extravagant pieces of architecture.
There was an attempted spin-off in 2001, Grand Designs Indoors which focused entirely on interior design, but given that interior design is often a major focus of the episodes, it only lasted six episodes.
Kirsty & Phil’s Love It Or List It
Whilst Location, Location, Location is also a great show about seeing unique examples of interior design, Love It Or List It brings the interior design aspect right to the forefront.
Kirsty Alsopp and Phil Spencer compete to convince homeowners either to refurbish their home and make it the best it could be or to sell up and relocate.
It is filled with useful advice when dealing with common housing issues and much like Location Location Location, helped by Kirsty and Phil’s presenting style.
Your Home Made Perfect
A much more recent show hosted by Angela Scanlon, Your Home Made Perfect adds a technological twist to the interior design format by replacing the sketches and pitches with virtual reality designs, making it so satisfactory to see these proposals become tangible.
