London Design Week 2020 is upon us! It’s a great opportunity to see what’s hot in some of the most luxurious interior settings and it’s a fantastic place to get some inspiration for your own home.
If you can’t make it to the event in London, which is running from 8 to 13 March, don’t worry, because Homes & Property has spoken to some of the interior gurus who are attending to find out about some of the top luxury interior trends for the coming year.
One of the main foundations of any interior design is the colour palette you use. According to the news provider, luxury interior design is all about “warm and positive” colours in 2020.
Creative consultant Arabella McNie told the newspaper that there are certain shades to look out for, and that you may want to consider including in your home if you’re having a revamp. “Look for Etruscan reds, watermelon and flamingo,” she enthused. Her other top tip is to include greens, because these are reminiscent of natural spaces like forests.
Contrasting textures are another theme that you’ll find dotted throughout the showcases in the capital this week, with the news provider pointing to the example set by Mark Alexander, where you can see “contrasting textures of banana bark and grass for walls”.
There’s a definite international feel to the designs on show this year too. Many creatives have taken inspiration from far-flung corners of the globe.
According to the news provider, you can see elements of Japanese designs in prints, as well as spot wallpaper that takes its inspiration from the formal Mudejar architecture of Seville and other parts of Spain known for their ties to the country’s Muslim era.
Oriental designs in general appear across various platforms and interior items, from rugs to furniture.
However, the news provider pointed out that one of the best ways to elevate a room from nice to luxurious is to focus on the details. “Note the details that set a home apart, such as hand-stitched leather, bullion braid, a silvered pole with carved finial, a lamp of mouth-blown glass, or bronze handles. Just a little of this luxury goes a long way to lift a room,” it asserted.
The publication also recommended commissioning bespoke pieces, if you have the budget, to make your interior space “uniquely yours”.

The publication noted that many of us will pull together a host of colours, fabrics, furniture and styles that we’ve found online, only to end up with “some deeply unhinged eclecticism”.
It explained that it’s not only about knowing what the latest trends are, but “more about an innate sense of what will and won’t work”. This, as the news provider added, is “a rare skill”.

“The experience of listening to a designer talk about how and why they make decisions and where they got their inspiration offers a privileged insight that has more breadth – and fathomless depth – than anything you’ll find on your Instagram feed,” it asserted.
